Recognising the Importance of Community Development Skills and Qualifications in the Public Sector

19 March 2010

12.30pm-3pm

Birkbeck College, University of London

Malet Street, Bloomsbury

Increasingly, public sector bodies are employing community development practitioners in order to achieve business objectives, legal compliance and better engagement with local communities. It is apparent that the greater the skills and expertise of those practicing community development, the greater the effectiveness of their employers.

This seminar will, through panel based discussions, identify the need for employers to consider accredited skills based training for community development practitioners and the opportunities available to meet that need.

Panel members include:

  • John Annette, Professor of Citizenship and Lifelong Learning, Birkbeck College
  • Debbie Forde, Head of Member Services, LB Newham
  • Hannah Peaker, London Empowerment Partnership Manager, London Civic Forum
  • Representative from the English Standards Board (tbc)

There will also be an opportunity to discuss community development learning opportunities with providers of skills and training.

Lunch will be provided. For more information or to book a place, please contact Paul Macey (paul@thecreativecollective.com or 020 7288 6256). To download a copy of the flyer, please click here. To download a map of the venue, please click here.
