Just Space..

‘Just Space’ is a London regional network of voluntary and community groups working together on London Plan related policies. It grew from working together on the Equalities Supplementary Planning Guidance and the Further Alterations to the London Plan (2007).

With support from the Greater London Authority London Plan team, it aims to bring key London voluntary and community groups together to improve Londoners access to spatial planning policies and their application.

London regional strategic policies form part of the planning law which governs the decisions of Borough planners and have local impact.  Community groups are more likely to be aware of opportunities to feed into Borough consultations than to regional processes and are not always aware of helpful regional developments that could be applied locally.  Spatial planning has become more important to the delivery of sustainable and equitable local communities, and many groups concerned with equalities have had involvement with spatial planning issues.  Just Space attempts to address these issues by:

  • Maintaining an overview of strategic planning issues and their implementation
  • Raising awareness of regional planning policies at local (Borough) level
  • Cascading learning to the local Borough level in a way that informs involvement in local development frameworks
  • Working in partnership to strengthen and diversify the membership of existing groups and to build the capacity of equalities sectors
  • Developing plain language information that is accessible for all Londoners.

London Civic Forum takes responsibility for convening the Just Space Network and is accountable for its funds.
