The Mayor of London

The Mayor of London is a directly elected politician with responsibility for the strategic government of Greater London. The Mayor proposes plans, policies and a budget for governing the city, and is a political figurehead for the capital. As one person working alongside a twenty-five member Assembly, the Mayor must provide strong leadership and a vision for the GLA, as well as making representations to central government and other bodies on behalf of London. The Mayor’s vision for London sets the agenda for the policies which are developed. The Mayor sets the annual budget for the GLA and the functional bodies, which is then scrutinised and, where necessary, amended by the London Assembly.
